Walhalla discolored water announcement

Walhalla believes it is working its way through a problem of discolored water that was discovered Saturday.  And by yesterday morning, the city reports, the water leaving the treatment plant showed no discoloration.  Meantime, with the knowledge of state DHEC, the city is continuing flushing maintenance.  The recent temperature inversion in Lake Keowee appears to have brought small amounts of iron and manganese into the system.  A high level of iron and manganese can affect color but is not harmful, according to the city.  There is no boil advisory.  On June 18 an independent contractor damaged a private fire line that connects to the Walhalla system.  Because of the line break, a boil advisory was issued.  But, according to the city, this was separate and not related to the discolored water problem.
