Voting is tomorrow

A sunny sky and near 50 degree weather will greet tomorrow’s voters in Oconee County. The state Democratic Presidential preference primary takes place tomorrow, with voting from 7 in the morning until 7 at night. There are several Democratic aspirants for their party’s nomination on the ballot. Although it’s a Democratic primary, there’s open voting, meaning that you don’t have to be a Democrat to vote for your choice. Here are a couple of questions and answers pertaining to the vote: Q. Do I have to be a registered member of a party to participate in a Presidential primary? A. No, South Carolina does not have registration by party. The Presidential primaries are open to all registered SC voters. Q. Why is there no Republican Presidential primary? A. The Republican Party chose not to have one. State law allows political parties to choose whether to hold a Presidential primary. Voting tomorrow will take place at your regular polling place, with the following exceptions: For this February 29 vote only, Seneca voters only will vote in the middle school gym, 810 WS 4th Street, instead of the nearby Shaver Recreation Complex.
