Vote results became official today

The ballots cast and the results of the Oconee municipal elections Tuesday are now official, by action today of the county board of canvassers.  The official totals show, as usual in an off-presidential year, the turnouts were low.  A little fewer than one out of every 10 qualified voters made their wishes known.  The best turnouts, around 19 percent, were recorded by Walhalla Precinct One and Seneca Precinct Three.  After the consideration of a handful of “fail safe” provisional ballots, the totals changed little, although some of the council winning candidates saw their totals increase by between one and three votes.  A simple explanation of provisional ballots is that they are ballots that have issues.
