Vivian Owens

 

 

Vivian Nichols Owens, 73, wife of the late John Elgin Owens, of Seneca, SC, passed away Monday, March 21, 2022, at The Residences at Park Place.

 

A native of Tamassee, SC, Mrs. Owens was the daughter of the late James Arthur Nichols and Ruby White Nichols. She was an influential English teacher for thirty-one years: five years at Hillcrest High School, one year at Carolina High School, and 25 years at Walhalla High School. Mrs. Owens received her Master’s Degree plus thirty hours in Education from Clemson University. She was a member of Cheohee Baptist Church and was the Minister of Music for thirty years. She was a lifelong learner and had a passion for teaching students not just English but life skills. Mrs. Owens was a confidant and mentor to students and colleagues. One of her biggest joys was the friendships and memories made with colleagues who became like family. She was an avid reader, a musician with a love for the guitar, and loved eating and spending time with family and friends.

 

Mrs. Owens is survived by a daughter: Rhonda Littleton of Summerville, SC; brothers: Harold Nichols (Melba Jo) of Pickens, SC, Marshall Nichols (Doris) of Gray Court, SC, and James Nichols (Marie) of Easley; nephews:  Steven Ellison (Mary Beth), Richard Alexander (Donna), Mark Nichols, Art Nichols (Danielle), Joe David Nichols (Teresa), Jason Nichols (Janet), and Chris Chastain; nieces: Janet Tedford (Joey), Laura All (Jaime), Lisa Nichols, and Karen Certain (David); and two special like grandchildren: Jackson Littleton and Sidney Littleton Gilbert (Daron). She loved and cared for a lot of great-nieces and great-nephews.

 

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Owens was preceded in death by brothers: Ralph Nichols and Wallace Nichols; sisters: Gladys Chastain, Doris Ellison, and Marion Alexander.

 

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, March 23, 2022, at Davenport Funeral Home.

 

The family will receive friends prior to the service from 10:00-11:00 AM, Wednesday at Davenport Funeral Home.

 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Cheohee Baptist Church, 829 Cheohee Valley Rd, Tamassee, SC 29686.
