Veterans’ Officer reacts to House-passed bill

Oconee’s Jerry Dyar can see both sides of the picture when it comes to whether a military background should be a pre-requisite for someone to serve as a county veterans’ affairs officer. The South Carolina House overwhelmingly passed a bill that removes the requirement. Dyar believes that if the matter were up to veterans they’d prefer someone with previous military service.  Dyar has served as the Oconee Veterans Affairs Officer since the early 1990s.  He has a military background, having served in the U-S Army in the 1960s.
