Verdict for the defense in the Common Pleas Court

The Oconee Common Pleas jury ruled in favor of the defense to bring to an end a six-day trial in the case of an elderly woman who lost sight in her left eye—as the result of a stroke caused by the condition central retina artery occlusion. The jury’s verdict, reached after only about 30 minutes deliberations, exonerates all defendants: emergency room physician Miles McGuff of he Blue Ridge Emergency Physicians and the Oconee Medical Center. As instructed by Judge McIntosh, the jury weighed the weighed the testimony and considered the evidence in a trial that alleged medical malpractice as the result of Camille Hess’s emergency room visit June 6, 2014.  Afterward, Dr. McGuff expressed relief but noted that, considering plaintiff Hess’s vision loss, there were no winners in the case. Hess attorney Larry Brandt appeared resigned to the outcome and indicated there’ll be no appeal from his side. We’ll have further details on the outcome on 101.7/WGOG NEWS.
