Vaccine supply quickly runs out

Prisma Health’s aggressive effort to get vaccine into the arms of South Carolinians is grinding to a temporary halt.  Example of how quickly Prisma has administered shots is that yesterday alone the healthcare provider administered 90 thousand doses across its 11-county service area.  However, Prisma vaccine task force physician Saria Soccocio this afternoon lamented:  “Our supply has dwindled tremendously….We have no excess inventory of vaccine,” she stated.  It means that, starting tomorrow, Prisma Health cannot take any walk-ins at vaccination sites, only those who’ve received appointments.  She requests the public awaiting doses to be patient, and to press public officials to push for greater dose allocation to the state.  “In comparison, South Carolina has the lowest vaccine allocation of all 50 states, when you look at vaccine allotment per one thousand people.”
