Utility line work near Seneca comes to a halt

Mechanical break downs and a contractor’s inability to finish the job have stopped a utility line project along SC 188/the Keowee School Road.  The stopped project is at the bridge near the Emerald Pointe subdivision.  Duke Energy, in a statement of explanation, said, “This project is a strategic improvement to increase reliability, support the growth of the community and make our energy infrastructure more resilient against power outages around Lake Keowee. We are aware that South Carolina DOT has scheduled to replace this bridge in the next few years, so new equipment can no longer be attached to the bridge. That’s why we are removing our equipment from the bridge so the process of replacing it does not interrupt service to customers in the future.” Meantime, Duke officials say they are in communication with the Emerald Pointe Home Owners Association, as the work there impact its members.
