Uptick in South Carolina jobless claims

The number of first-time claims from South Carolinians for unemployment insurance shows an uptick for the week ended August 15, but the state’s top eye for jobless numbers says from available information to his employees, there’s no significant single event that accounts for the increase (an increase of 1,334).   Dan Ellzey included his comment in the report that  became available today.  Oconee County numbers are reflected in the increase.  For the week that ended Saturday, August 15, the state processed an additional 98 claims from first time filers.  That compared with 55 the previous week. Since mid March, the Department of Employment and Workforce has processed nearly 720 thousand claims from displaced South Carolina workers.
