Update: Sewer line break on Coneross Creek

The Joint Regional Sewer Authority at Seneca and its contractor, Tugaloo Pipeline, continue to work to repair a broken sewer line adjacent to Coneross Creek near the Richland community of Oconee County. The 30-inch pipe to be used for the permanent repair is expected to arrive by Wednesday and construction should be complete by Friday evening. The OJRSA responded to the incident on December 27 after a property owner notified the agency of the pipe collapse that was caused by severe erosion to the creekbank. Approximately 195,000 gallons of wastewater spilled into Coneross Creek before a system of temporary pumps and hoses around the break were installed Friday. The South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (SCDHEC) is aware of the incident and samples of the creek have been collected for analysis. People and pets should continue to avoid contact with Coneross Creek from the No
