Upcountry Fiber official fields questions at Fair Play

The possibility that hand-held and other communication devices in Fair Play can be enhanced by high-speed access to the internet has stirred curiosity in the Oconee-Anderson community.  Zach Hinton of Upcountry Fiber, the joint fiber optic project of the Blue Ridge Electric Cooperative and the Western Carolina Telephone Company, fielded lots of questions during a meeting last night in Fair Play.  Many of the questioners wanted to know if high-speed will come to their neighborhoods and how soon.  Hinton said construction of a fiber optic network has already begun in the nearby Port Bass Community and said the goal by 2022 is to have installed 1,200 miles of fiber optic cable throughout project territory, which would include Fair Play.
