Underwood-Roberts: “Face to face, man to man”

Two Walhalla councilmen going forward pledge they will respect each other’s opinions, even though one of them is siding with the political opponent of the other. David Underwood challenged the validity of published comments attributed to colleague Josh Roberts and chided Roberts for questioning the legality of whether the city’s plan to award COVID-19 hazard pay was legal. Underwood coupled that with this declaration: “I want you to know face to face man to man that I have looked into both you and Matthew Durham’s stances on things and current platforms.” Making reference to Roberts’ campaign to run for the District Two seat on the Oconee County Council, Underwood announced he’s supporting Roberts’ primary election opponent Matthew Durham. Roberts responded by saying that, during the meeting at issue, he misunderstood some comments and conceded he had trouble hearing exactly what was said because he was participating remotely by the internet. And, as for Underwood supporting his county council opponent, Roberts told Underwood, “I won’t ask you to put a sign behind your window on Main Street….I want you to know I still respect you.”
