U-S Marshal imposters in Oconee

If someone comes to your home claiming to be a law enforcement officer but refuses to show identification, you should call 9-1-1 right away. That is the advice from the Oconee Sheriff’s Office today after someone on Thursday attempted a scam while posing as a United States marshal. A man in a suit who had a pronounced scar around one of his eyes was refused entry by a homeowner and then disappeared. She balked at giving him her Social Security number. He was further described as a white male with an accent, around 5’8”, 200 lbs., and black, curly hair. A second incident is considered a scam by a repeated caller claiming to be from the U-S Marshal’s Service. That caller was able to persuade his victim to purchase thousands of dollars worth of gift cards to send pictures of the cards so they could be activated.
