Two Northeast Georgia counties land in redrawn district

In late December, a federal judge accepted newly-redrawn Georgia congressional and legislative voting districts, saying the creation of new majority Black voting districts around metro Atlanta solved the illegal minority vote dilution that led him to order maps to be redrawn.  That news may have gone unnoticed in Northeast Georgia, but Lake Hartwell Radio WLHR reports many in Northeast Georgia may or may not realize that Hart and Franklin counties by January 1 were moved out of Georgia’s 9th into district 10.  It means that the citizenry of Hart and Franklin are no longer represented in the U-S House of Representatives by Gainesville Republican Andrew Clyde; instead their U-S rep. is now Jackson Republican Mike Collins.  The redrawn districts will be used in this year’s elections.
