Truett Stancil

Westminster – George Truett Stansell, 92, husband of Edna Boggs Stansell, passed away on January 8th, 2024, at his residence surrounded by his loving family.

 

Born in Oconee County, South Carolina, Truett was the son of the late Rev. M.J. and Fannie Taylor Stansell.  Truett graduated with honors from Clemson University in 1952, with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and later was the Vice President of Engineering for Guilford Mills, Inc. in Greensboro, North Carolina where he retired in 1993. Truett was a member of the Association of Textile Mechanical Engineers (ATME) and an active member of Westminster First Baptist Church where he was a former Deacon, Sunday School Teacher, and Historical Committee Member.

 

Truett is survived by his wife; sons, G.T. “Toby” Stansell (Susan) of Seneca, William “Jay” Stansell (Jill) of Greenville; and daughter, India Stansell Steele (John), of Walkertown, NC; 7 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; and 1 expected great-grandchild.  Preceding Truett in death were his brothers, Furman Taylor Stansell, Jack Stansell, MJ Stansell; sisters, Helen Cody, Audrey Jean Smith, and Lorene Glymph.

 

A Funeral Service will be conducted at 2:00 pm, Friday, January 12th, 2024 at First Baptist Church of Westminster, with burial to follow at First Baptist Memorial Park.  The family will receive friends and family from 12:30 pm to 2:00 pm prior to the service at the church.
