Trail hikers rescued after ordeal

Public safety responders, along with Oconee’s Special Rescue team, came to the aid of two hikers last evening on the Yellow Branch Falls Trail, north of Walhalla.  Shortly before 5 pm, 9-1-1 received a report of two hikers injured/in distress.  Rescuers located the two hikers two miles in, rendered aid and, using special equipment, carried the pair out to waiting EMS personnel.  Charlie King of Oconee Emergency Services said, “While we always encourage visitors to get outdoors and visit the incredible places Oconee has to offer, it is important to understand the dangers and to be prepared for that environment.
