Tornado awareness being stressed

Oconee County is making its annual effort to educate some of the youngest population about dangers of tornadoes and the protective actions that should be taken in the event that a twister develops.  Tornadoes are not an uncommon occurrence in this part of the country.  As many Oconeeans learned well in 2020, tornadoes can cause death and millions of dollars in property damage.  The 37th Annual Tornado Safety Poster Contest, sponsored by Oconee Emergency Services, is accepting entries from school children in grades one through five.  Entries are judged on artistic aspects; however, the judges will stress the theme of tornado safety by depicting protective actions.  As always, there will be a winner, runner-up, and honorable mention at each grade level, along with an overall grand prize winner.
