To questions about industry park, the chairman responds

Because of the need to honor a client’s preference, Oconee County won’t identify an outfit that apparently has shown interest in buying all of the Golden Corner Commerce Park property. But that’s not unusual, according to Chairman Julian Davis of the County Council. It’s standard practice that. in the pursuit of economic development, a company’s identity often remains undisclosed until a deal is struck. And, in the case of GCCP, Davis says the county has shown the park property to three different companies in the last month and a half. Speaking to the council in last week’s meeting public comment session, one southern Oconee resident says the talk he hears is that the company interested is in the solar energy business, and Tony Adams questioned whether that’s the right type of business for the southern Oconee area. Davis said taxes paid and jobs created are the important considerations considered. And, as far as southern Oconee is concerned, Oakway farm community resident Davis says the county should ensure that economic development is counter-productive to the agricultural base of the county.
