Tim Musick

Tim Musick of Chapin, South Carolina, husband of 48 years to Brenda Burley Musick, passed away peacefully in his home on October 25, 2021, after a battle with cancer.  He was a devoted husband, a loving father, and a friend to all who knew him.

A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, October 30, 2021, at 12:00 pm at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church in Irmo, South Carolina, with Pastor Scott Dinkins officiating.  Visitation with the family will begin at 11:00 am, prior to the service.  For those wishing to attend in the upstate, graveside services will be in Oconee Memorial Park in Seneca, South Carolina on Friday, October 29, 2021, at 1:00 pm.

Tim was born in Painesville, Ohio to Dr. Clifford Edwin Musick, DC and Sue Frances Butler Musick.  He moved with his family to Westminster, South Carolina when he was five years old.  In his early life, he played many sports at Westminster High School, but football was always his favorite.  After graduation from high school, he volunteered as a medic with the United States Army and served in the Vietnam war, where he developed his love of medicine and helping others in need.

After his military service, he earned degrees from Toccoa Falls Bible College, Clemson University, University of South Carolina, and the Richland Hospital School of Anesthesia.

Tim made his career as a nurse anesthetist, working at several area hospitals in that field.  Notably, he was employed at Lexington Medical Center in West Columbia for over forty years.  He was dear friends with many of his co-workers, and he considered them to be part of his family.

Tim’s passion in life was to be a servant to his family, friends, and others.  He loved traveling around the world with medical mission trips and served on approximately thirty trips.  Traveling with Samaritans Purse Medical Missions was one of his favorite ways to spend his vacation time.  On these medical missions, he provided anesthesia to children and adults who were having cleft lip/cleft palate repair and other surgeries. He was a member of Chapin Presbyterian Church, where he taught adult Sunday School.  Never one to stay idle, when not working, traveling for medical missions, or teaching, Tim would create stained glass artwork, restore antique Volkswagens, and bake “award winning” cookies.

In addition to his wife, Brenda, Tim is survived by two of his sons, Ryan Timothy Musick and Matthew Pickens Musick (Elizabeth).  He is also survived by siblings Jim Musick (Tish), Susie Von Seydlitz (Bernard), Dan Musick (Jean), Becky Childs (Charlie), Bill Musick (Tammy), and Charlie Musick (Dana).  He is predeceased by his parents, as well as his son William “Will” David Musick, and his sister, Mary Stackley.

The family wishes to express their gratitude to Lexington Oncology for their care of Tim during these past few months.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Samaritans Purse, P.O. Box 3000, Boone, North Carolina, 28601 (Samaritanspurse.org) to their World Medical Mission Teams or to Chapin Presbyterian Church, 600 Old Lexington Highway, Chapin, South Carolina 29036 (Chapinpres.org).  Condolences may be expressed online by visiting www.sandefurfuneralhome.com.  To honor Tim, pass on an act of kindness when at home or abroad.
