Three prescribed burns to cover 2,453 acres

The Andrew Pickens Ranger District plans three prescribed burns on Wednesday 2/24 for a total of 2,453 acres. Burn objectives will help wildlife habitat improvement, research, and hazardous fuels reduction. Smoke may be visible, with residual smoke lingering into the afternoon and evening hours. The information for the three units is as follows:

 

State Line- 1,762 (807 in SC) acres in partnership with the National Forests in North Carolina, Nantahala Ranger District. This burn unit is located between Highways 107 and 130, north of Wigington Road.

 

State Park/107- 241 acres in partnership with the US Forest Service and SC State Parks directly west of Highway 107 and Oconee State Park.

 

Rifle Range- 450 acres located between Rich Mountain Road (FS 744), Cedar Creek Road (FS 744C), and the Cedar Creek Rifle Range.
