The state’s chief executive makes budget vetoes

Not everything in the new South Carolina budget meets the approval of the state’s chief executive.  Governor McMaster today made known his vetoes of certain line items.  Still, however, he believes there’s much in the new spending plan that will advance the state.  Among what McMaster highlights as worthy:  $556 thousand to hire three additional “SLED” agents dedicated to animal fighting; and he sees $200 million allotted for bridges replacements and repairs as a “good start.” Yet, among the vetoes, is a slice of $400 thousand to a state learning program that, according to McMaster, was supported by District One State Rep. Bill Whitmire of Walhalla.   About sustaining a veto, the governor said that, for the first time in recent memory, the General Assembly last year did not override a single governor’s veto.
