The governor vents his frustration

Governor McMaster concedes he’s unhappy, and he thinks many others in South Carolina are unhappy about the preponderance of county public school districts that have not re-opened their classroom buildings.  He said yesterday that this is causing problems for parents.  During a news briefing, McMaster announced that, if the legislature agrees, he’s going to assign first priority to millions of dollars to 19 county districts that offer five-day-a-week face-to-face instruction.  The money is to be used by the districts to offset their costs of COVID-19 protective preparations.  The Oconee district offers the option of classroom instruction or virtual learning.  So, we asked Superintendent Dr. Michael Thorsland if his district will qualify as one of the 19.  His reply:  “I really don’t have any insider information about that.  I read the media reports yesterday.”  Thorsland expects to learn more about this in the coming days.
