The Democrats’ hope for Congress campaigns in Oconee

Oconee Democrats welcomed their party’s nominee for the available 3rd District congressional seat to a meet-the-candidate event at the county party headquarters in Walhalla.  In all, there’ll be three candidates on the November ballot but, in his talk last night, Democrat Bryon Best focused on the Republican nominee, Sheri Biggs, and declared, “I know I am better than she.”  Best told his audience he grew up poor in a large family in Edgefield County, but he was able to get a college education and became a restaurant and a store manager.  Today he manages a national paint chain store in Greenwood.  As to helping make the country better, Best named education his top priority and he decried statistics that rank South Carolina at or near the bottom in multiple categories.  His appreciative audience gave him a sendoff that included a $500 dollar contribution from the local party, along with a container of Long Creek honey which Rod Stipe, the county party chairman, called a sweet memento from Oconee County.
