The deal sealed

In Westminster’s future, there will be a new recreation complex.  Mayor Brian Ramey announces that, effective Friday, December 18, the city closed the deal with property owner Joel Thrift to complete the purchase of 62 acres on Hall Road.  That acreage, combined with city-owned 15 adjoining acres, is considered enough to be able to build a facility that will greatly expand recreation for the city’s children and adults.  For a time, the purchase was controversial because of the city’s limited financial resources.  In the end, however, pro-recreation interests won out and the project as benefit to Westminster’s long-time recreation director, Herb Poole, who has been limited by crowded facilities.
