The courthouse is open, but not the courts

All court sessions have been cancelled, but the Oconee County Courthouse in Walhalla remains open for other business. Clerk of Court Whitfield has re-opened the drive-thru, so if you have payments to make or papers to file you can still transact that business. Whitfield says if you want to save time, you can call ahead and explain what you need and he staff will try to have it ready by the time you go thru the drive-thru. The main number is 638-4280, press #3. Although many county and municipal offices have closed their doors, the courthouse door is still open, as county courthouses are under the jurisdiction of the State Court Administration. All previously scheduled terms of court from March 23, 2020 through May 1, 2020 are hereby canceled, by order of Chief Justice Beatty, and all judges who are not assigned to vacation, official leave or an Administrative Week shall be assigned to chambers.
