Tax levy approved by Oconee County Council

As noted by the county councilman Matthew Durham, Oconee’s tax base has grown enough to allow for a drop in the formula that sets property tax bills.  Last night, at the recommendation of the auditor, the council set total millage at 226, a drop of nearly of two mills from the previous year.  Now that millage is set, the office of the county treasurer is free to mail 2021 tax notices.  Last night Auditor Christy Hubbard filled the ears of the county fathers with the formula needed to generate the millions of dollars with which county government, the schools, and the municipalities will require to meet their expenses in 2021-22.  Hubbard also gave examples of the tax cut that most taxpayers can anticipate, and those examples are being aired today on 101.7/WGOG NEWS.
