Taking shelter from the storm

Nature provided some good moments over the weekend to enjoy the many waters that make up Oconee County.  But Saturday night was an example of how fast the weather can change.  A Saturday night storm temporarily forced a group of Lake Keowee boaters to shelter on one of the islands.  To their predicament, came Oconee County rescuers.  Scott Krein, the emergency services manager, says everyone turned up safe and he commended the boaters for making the right decision to leave the waters as soon as the storm hit.  The rescue call was centered on an island in a great expanse of water near the Keowee Sailing Club.  Near Walhalla Saturday a female hiker required the assistance of the cross-trained personnel of the Walhalla Fire Department.  According to Chief Burton, the hiker overcome by the 90-degree temperatures was helped out of the Yellow Branch trail inside the forest service district.
