An overnight firefighting scene on the Ross Mountain Road, Mountain Rest.  Several units responded and a few of them remained at the scene through the night.  We’ve had no official word as yet on injuries or the cause for the fire.  County Dispatch recorded the first call just before 11:15 last night.

The webpage and web maps of Oconee’s GIS services — Geographic Information Services — will be offline for maintenance Thursday through Friday, August 31 and September 1.  During the scheduled maintenance, according to GIS manager Nick Walton, the maps and downloadable data will be unavailable.  The temporary interruption may affect services in other county departments that rely on the applications.  […]

The members of Westminster City Council will gather this week at city hall, but they won’t be voting on any city business.  The council members are being asked to assemble Thursday for a photo shoot — the purpose of which is for new photographs to update the city website.

Oconee Sheriff’s Office has called off a missing person alert for a Fair Play teenager.  A sheriff’s captain is reporting that Amarylis Rodriguez, reported missing over the weekend, has been located and is safe.

An early morning accident yesterday took the life of a pickup truck driver near Westminster.  Coroner Karl Addis said Bryan D.
