Swan and Campbell are quilt show winners

Ballots cast at the Oconee History Museum in Walhalla have decided the winners of a quilt making contest.  Museum visitors selected Sue Swan’s “Octopus’s Garden” and Donna Campbell”s “Teachable Moment” as their favorites.  The Upstate Heritage Quilt Trail and the Lake and Mountain Guild Club chose the history museum to display the entrants’ work.  Swan’s winner was based on a whimsical character created in a workshop by Kathy O’Neill.  It features the use of fabric motifs with the turned edge applique.  Campbell’s winner was based on a photo of the quilter’s father and granddaughter at Christmas 2014.  At the time, the quilter’s father was 92; granddaughter Alice was 10 months old.  The words quilted throughout the background are from the book he is reading.
