Suspected computer virus shuts down county offices

Oconee County government offices have been forced to close for the day for precautionary reasons.  Amanda Brock, county administrator, says the culprit is a suspected computer virus. The county’s I-T workers are investigating, and an announcement will be made later when the county offices may re-open.  According to Brock, the suspected virus has stopped the county’s ability to make transactions.  The office closings affect the Pine Street administrative offices, along with the libraries and the Oconee Courthouse.  Courthouse doors are being locked, although a decision has been made to proceed with the completion of a trial in progress since yesterday.  Brock says the public is requested to forego their trips to county offices today. Telephone service is unavailable due to a tie-in with the computer system.  The Sheriff’s Office is an exception as Sheriff Crenshaw says, so far, no problems.  That means the 9-1-1 system is working as normal.
