Survey results give the edge to incorporating

Of those who responded to a survey, more people favor converting the Gum Log Community in northeast Georgia into an official town.  Nearly 65.5% surveyed said yes to incorporation; nearly 46.5% said no; and 8% registered no opinion.  Behind the idea to incorporate is Jason Macomson, chairman of the Franklin County Commission.  He has said that solutions to Gum Log problems would be easier to arrive at if the community became a town and created a tax base.  On the other side is a former commissioner, Marie Whitworth.  She’s concerned about the tax bite that would be placed on community residents who are on fixed incomes and she believes many of the community’s problems, like drug dealers, are bigger than that which a town could solve.
