Suit names “John Doe” and the Pickens Sheriff’s Office

A lawsuit placed in the Anderson Common Pleas Court names as defendants a “John Doe” and the Pickens County Sheriff’s Office.  It seeks damages and alleges that a John Doe, either a deputy or an employee, tried to stop a vehicle after it was allegedly seen speeding March 23, 2021 on secondary 94, the Old Pendleton Road, in Anderson County.  The plaintiff is an attorney, Todd Pruette, in the capacity as a “friend” of three injured minor children. The lawsuit alleges negligence claiming that the chase, in excess of 100 mph, ended in a crash with a third vehicle, transporting the three children.  It further quotes eyewitnesses alleging defendant Doe left the accident scene immediately after the crash and the Pickens Sheriff’s Office, contrary to its policy, failed to require an investigation and panel review of what happened.
