State takes dim view of tires stored in Mountain Rest

Among action items in front of South Carolina DHEC commissioners today in Columbia are penalities proposed for what inspectors say is a violation of waste tire regulations in Oconee County. Inspectors cited the owners of Mountain Rest property for storing about 300 waste tires. No more than 120 waste tires may be stored without first obtaining a permit to operate a tire collection facility. The commissioners were scheduled to decide whether to implement a fine and a requirement that the property owners dispose of the tires at a permitted facility.
