State police to probe case of injured prisoner

Unexplained injuries suffered by an Oconee County inmate are to be investigated by the state police.  At the request of Oconee Sheriff Mike Crenshaw, the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division will make an independent assessment, a standard procedure even though, in this case, according to Capt. Jeremy Chapman, no Oconee detention officers were involved.  A call button to a cell was sounded at 4:20 Sunday morning.  Officers found an injured male inmate.  EMS transported the inmate to the hospital.  According to the sheriff’s office, first reports indicate the inmate may have fallen from his bed.
