State lawmakers aware of Clemson annexation move

The effort by Clemson to annex seven acres at Hartwell Village in Oconee made for discussion yesterday in Columbia, where a couple of Oconee County councilmen were at the state capital for an Association of Counties’ event. Seneca’s county councilman Paul Cain said the proposed annexation was discussed with Oconee’s state lawmakers and at least one member of the Pickens County delegation. As to Oconee’s resident three-member delegation, Cain said, “They’re very concerned.” However, Cain concedes there apparently isn’t much they can do, other than to voice their opposition. Cain also said he spoke with Gary Clary, the state representative. He quoted Clary as saying he doesn’t get involved in local matters.
