State funds to re-pave pot-holed SC 107

The condition of a state highway in northern Oconee that draws complaints from motorists will get attention next year, as the result of a vote this morning by Oconee’s state “C” Fund Committee.  The local DOT was approved for $1.6 million from the county’s pot of C fund money.  That’s the estimate for what it will take to re-surface a 3-point-3-mile section of SC 107, from the Fish Hatchery Road to the North Carolina line.  The 107 section is plagued by potholes, and a DOT official says the department receives many claims from drivers who have hit holes in the two-lane highway.  Of 107, “C” Fund Chairman Sam Dickson said, “It is bad.”  107 traverses a remote part of the county, but the state’s traffic counts there register 750 vehicles a day. Normally, “C” funds are channeled for secondary road projects, but it appears that 107 won’t rate as a primary road priority for years to come.  The 107 work likely will take place during next year’s road work season.
