Standoff ends, man captured

A 24-year old man surrendered to police custody last night in a Seneca neighborhood and was headed to jail on multiple charges.  Melvin Cabrera gave up after a four-hour standoff.  Cabrera had barricaded himself inside a home in the vicinity of S. Walnut and 5th streets, but Police Chief Bowling says the incident ended peacefully.  Police had gone to Cabrera’s location to serve six warrants from the municipal court, along with one warrant alleging possession of a stolen vehicle.  Bowling says Cabrera is also a wanted suspect in the Pickens County town of Central.  At the scene, the Seneca police were joined by Oconee County’s “SWAT” unit.
