Special exception for a communications tower

Special exception is being made for a monopole tower at Mountain Rest.  Without dissent last night, the Oconee Board of Zoning Appeals granted the application of a law firm for a 195’ monopole communications tower in the vicinity of 851 Highway 107.  A monopole tower is one that has one stem or one pole anchored to the ground.  About this one, board chairman Jim Codner said, “As far as communication towers go, this one is pretty invisible”—a remark made as to the place where the tower is to be set in the ground.
