South Union couple escape camper fire

A husband and wife–and their pet dog–escaped a fire that burned their camper in the South Union Community of Oconee County.  The family is receiving the help of the American Red Cross.  Travis Collins of the Oconee Fire Investigation Team says this morning’s fire was accidental, although it’s cause is so far undetermined.  Around 7 this morning while the wife was inside watching TV, she smelled smoke.  She alerted her husband who was outside doing yard work.  The fire occurred on Blue Jay Drive, about 1 to 1.5 miles from the primary responding fire department (the South Union volunteers.)
