South Carolina quickly dispenses its vaccine–national report

South Carolina may be on the short end when it comes to vaccine allocation but when it comes to administering the shots, the state gets a top ranking—according to a national report which DHEC called attention to yesterday.  The report was compiled by Becker’s Hospital Review, a national forum for healthcare information.  It found that South Carolina was number 10 in the country for administering more than 61% of the total doses of vaccine received in the state.  DHEC acknowledged, however, that in the middle part of this month, the CDC had indicated South Carolina was among one of the lowest for rates of doses distributed and of shots given for 100 thousand people.  But that report, according to DHEC, failed to include more than 200 thousand doses that South Carolina dedicated in lump sum to a statewide effort for vaccinating every long-term care facility resident and staff member.
