South Carolina Men’s Basketball

South Carolina men’s basketball shocked No. 6 Kentucky 79-62 in front of a sellout crowd at Colonial Life Arena Tuesday night.  This marks the Gamecocks’ first win over a top-10 team since 2020 when they beat Kentucky in the last sellout of CLA for a men’s basketball game.  South Carolina did it with defense by holding Kentucky, the nation’s top scoring team, to 30 points fewer than its season average. On offense, the big three guards for the Gamecocks led the way Tuesday.  Ta’Lon Copper scored a game-high 20 points on 8-11 shooting and Meechie Johnson and Jacobi Wright added 14 points apiece.  When asked if his team should be ranked after this huge win, Head Coach Lamont Paris said, “if we’re not, it’s a problem.”  After the milestone win, South Carolina is now 16-3 overall and 4-2 in the SEC.  The Gamecocks are now 13-0 in games they score 70 points or more this season.  Up next, South Carolina looks to keep the momentum moving hosting Mizzou at 1 p.m. Saturday.
