Sotomayor to speak September 14 at Clemson

Sonia Sotomayor, Associate Justice of the Supreme Court, visits Clemson University next month for a moderated question-answer session with students.  The event will be 11 am Thursday, September 14 at Brooks Center.  The event is free and open to the public, but reserved tickets are required.  Tickets are available through the Brooks Center box office first to Clemson students and, starting Wednesday, faculty and staff and the general public.  The box office is open 1 to 5 pm Monday-Friday and will be open at 9 am September 14.  In 1991, President George H-W Bush nominated Sotomayor to the U-S District Court, Southern District of New York, and served in that role from 1992-1998.  She then served as a judge on the U-S Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit from 1998-2009.  President Barack Obama nominated her as an as Associate Justice of the Supreme Court on May 26, 2009, and she assumed that role on August 8, 2009.
