Snider in place of Burchfield at Oconee Nuclear

Duke Energy’s Steve Snider has transitioned to the role of Oconee Nuclear Station’s site vice president. He succeeds Ed Burchfield, who recently retired from the position he held since 2017.

Most recently, Snider served as vice president of nuclear engineering for Duke Energy, headquartered in Charlotte, N.C., since 2019.

“Steve’s engineering, regulatory and operations experience has positioned him well to lead Oconee. Along with his technical capabilities, he has an ability to establish strong relationships,” Duke Energy Chief Nuclear Officer Kelvin Henderson said.

Snider has 32 years of experience in Duke Energy’s nuclear energy organization. In addition to his most recent appointments, he also served as plant manager at McGuire Nuclear Station, earned his U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Senior Reactor Operator license from Catawba Nuclear Station and has held both engineering and operations management roles at McGuire and Catawba. He joined Duke Energy in 1988 as a design engineer in the corporate office.

The Albemarle, N.C., native graduated summa cum laude from North Carolina State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering. Snider is a registered professional engineer in South Carolina.

Burchfield retired from Duke Energy after a 37-year career in the energy industry; he joined Duke Energy in 1984. Over his career, he held various positions in the corporate office and at Oconee, including Oconee engineering general manager, plant manager and site vice president.
