“SLED” Addis case records disclosed

The state police, the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division, began today to release records in its investigation of whether Oconee Coroner Karl Addis violated any criminal laws were broken in the conduct of an extra-marital affair.  The conclusion of a circuit solicitor requested to look into the matter was that while the coroner’s actions were in-appropriate they did not rise to a prosecution for misconduct in office.  Solicitor David Stumbo’s October 6 letter detailing his decision was included in a packet of information that “SLED” released as part of a Freedom of Information request.  Paul Ahearn III, deputy general counsel, said what’s being released today are “non-exempt public records”.  Also included in the FOIA release are memoranda of interviews by “SLED” with Addis, Oconee Sheriff Mike Crenshaw, and County Administrator Amanda Brock.
