Sidney Jewell Adams

Seneca, SC – Sidney Jewell Adams, 74, loving husband of Sharon Nix Adams, of Seneca, died Wednesday morning, June 8, 2022, at Oconee Memorial Hospital following a short illness.

Sidney was born in Seneca, SC on November 24,1947, the son of the late Jewell Clifton and Frances Abbott Adams. Affectionately known as Uncle Sid to his sweet nieces and special nephews, Sid was a thoughtful, kind and deeply spiritual soul who cared about everyone.

Sid graduated as Salutatorian of the Seneca High School Class of 1966, where he was also Student Body President. His education continued at Emory University in Atlanta where he majored in Political Science. While at Emory, he was President of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity, and graduated in the Class of 1970. Following college, Sid began a career in banking, and later owned businesses in Clemson and Seneca.

In 1988, he married the love of his life, Sharon and moved to Clemson, later settling in their hometown of Seneca. In these early years, they enjoyed extensive travels.

They loved and raised son, Oliver Dawson Adams (Lauren) currently of Knoxville, Tennessee, and have four grandsons. They counted among their special blessings their “bonus” children, Eddie and Carol Adams.

Sid is survived by his sister Janice Adams Brock (the late Crayton Brock) of Greenville and nieces and nephews, Sherrie, Allan, and Kim. In addition, Sid was a “brother” to Sharon’s sister Frankie Kelly (James) and an uncle to Casey Lackey and Houston Kelly (Dallas), and great uncle to Madison, Kennedy, Layla, Reese, Wyatt, and Dawson. They also gladly welcomed their “bonus” grandchildren Gregory and James Adams into their hearts and lives.

Sid was an encourager and was always ready to care for his extended family members. He was a wonderful caretaker with Sharon for his Mother-in-Law Lizzie and Brother-in-Law Larry Nix. If anyone needed special care, he was there. He took time to send emails of thanks and support to friends and family, often adding his own brand of humor to his messages. He shared his dry wit through memes with those who understood and appreciated them.

Sid and Sharon enjoyed many hours cooking together and trying new recipes from the Cooking Network. They made many desserts, especially cakes, to share with others.

A private person, Sid was an avid reader and had an insatiable thirst for knowledge. In retirement, he and Sharon shared many books and movies and spent hours discussing philosophy, politics, and religion. He was also a formidable armchair Jeopardy participant who loved Crossword Puzzles.

For all his refinement, Sid inherited a love of farm equipment from his Dad and Uncles (the late Hubert, Roy, Clay and James). His greatest fun was getting on a tractor to bushhog. He also enjoyed responding to calls from his Uncle James to come and pull him out of a ditch.

Sharon would like to say “Thank you” to some very special family and friends who shared our lives and supported us throughout our marriage and especially through these last weeks. You know who you are, and that love meant the world to us.

A Celebration of Life will be hosted by Eddie Adams at his home on June 25, 2022, beginning at 3:00 pm. The address is 1113 Homeport Cove, Seneca SC 29672.
