Sheriff’s Office adopts new crime-fighting tool

Oconee deputies have a new tool to help solve crimes and keep the citizenry safe. The Sheriff’s Office has joined the Neighbors App by Ring. “We have joined Ring’s Neighbor App and have added this technology to our investigative tool belt,” says Oconee County Sheriff Mike Crenshaw. “Citizens can download the Neighbor’s App for free, whether they own a Ring device or not, to stay informed about what is going on in and around they neighborhoods and homes. We are grateful for this partnership and their commitment to assist and support law enforcement.” The Sheriff’s Office will be able to send crime and safety information via posts to the app to the County as a whole or to specific areas where a crime or an incident may have occurred. The Sheriff’s Office can view and comment on posts within their jurisdiction to build relationships and share information with the citizens of Oconee County who download the app.
According to Neighbors App, the app does not provide local law enforcement with the addresses at which any device is located unless the user gives their expressed consent. User’s account information or identities are not identified. If you have a Smartphone, you can download Neighbors App by Ring.
