Setting the 2020-21 school year

A calendar for the 2020-21 school year will likely come out of tonight’s meeting of the Oconee County trustees.  The trustees have taken the last two weeks to allow for additional comment, after only small numbers of parents responded to earlier surveys.  The main issue is the starting day for schools in 2020 and the state’s requirement that the public schools may not start their academic year earlier than the third Monday in August.  Indications received by 101.7/WGOG NEWS are that the Oconee board will seek a state waiver to start classes five days ahead of the third Monday.
