September 11 to be Patriot’s Day in the public schools

A vote next week by Oconee school trustees likely will create Patriot Day every September 11 in the public schools.  It’s in line with a move by the state to further instill in children regard and remembrance of history, including September 11, 2001—the day of the worst attacks ever on the U-S homeland.  There are also provisions for students to take a day to commemorate Constitution and Citizenship Day, Veterans Day, and Patriotism Week.  Principals are to allow representatives of youth patriotic societies the chance to speak with students on Patriot Day and the other designated patriotic days.
