Senior Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program returns

The Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program returns this summer to Oconee County with the purpose of supplementing the diets of low-income seniors. The program promises fresh, nutritious produce. The seasonal USDA grant program allows those 60 and older to buy un-processed fruits and vegetables from authorized farmers’ markets, roadside stands, and community-supported agriculture programs through October 15. Participants receive $25 dollars in the form of five checks of $5 dollars on the basis of first-come, first-served. The vouchers will be issued Tuesday and Wednesday, June 4 and 5 at the Blue Ridge Community Center at 315 Holland Avenue, Seneca—the former Code Elementary School. Those who apply must provide a statement from the senior granting permission to submit an application on their behalf. Proof of identity and proof of income for a homebound senior must be presented at the time of application.
