Seneca leaders envision fairer city job chances

Changes are being made in Seneca hiring practices to give minorities greater opportunity at landing city jobs.  Both the police chief and the city administrator promised those tuned to yesterday’s zoom meeting arranged by the Oconee NAACP branch on the final day of Black History Month.  The city’s new police chief, Casey Bowling, promises a colorblind approach as his department considers job applications.  Currently, Seneca employs two African-Americans as police officers.  Not only is it likely that the city police department will start to employ additional African Americans and Latinos and other minorities to police the city, but it’s likely City Hall will start to diversify its workforce.  Scott Moulder, city administrator, admitted that no one of color has any kind of position in city hall, which is noticeable to all who frequent the building.  Seneca recently employed an expert in the diversity field to evaluate and recommend changes.
